Awareness around the importance of mental health is needed more now than ever before.

According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in five Americans lives with a mental health challenge. Plus, more simply experience high levels of stress or anxiety related to work and daily pressures. This can put individuals at increased risk for depression, physical ailments, sleep issues, addiction, substance abuse and more. It may also worsen existing conditions.

With mental health concerns on the rise, giving workers better access to proper support when they need it is becoming a big priority for employers. Likewise, lowering cost barriers to high-quality care is just as important.

At Meritain Health®, we work hard to bring mental health awareness to the forefront and broaden resources we can offer. Our most-utilized network from Aetna® has expanded to include access to 307,000 behavioral health specialists, including virtual care. We also offer solutions through Population Health Management, employee assistance programs, products focused on mental well-being and more.

On this World Mental Health Day, we encourage you to make sure your self-funded health benefits include offerings to address mental well-being. We can help you figure out what’s right for you so employees have what they need. In addition, be sure to take a moment to pay attention to your own mental health needs and those of your family, coworkers and friends.
