Meritain Health is making prior authorization simpler with Availity beginning this August. Providers can submit requests using the Availity portal starting August 15. This enhancement is designed to streamline workflows for medical management programs and make it easier for providers to access the information and support they need.
Availity is one of the nation’s leading health care technology platforms, supporting more than three million providers through automated, streamlined workflows. By leveraging a platform familiar to many providers, Meritain Health is aligning the prior authorization experience with industry standards and helping to create a more efficient and connected experience.
Getting started with Availity
Providers who do not currently use Availity can register at essentials.availity.com. Existing Availity users can begin submitting prior authorization requests for Meritain Health members using their current account credentials.
Making prior authorization simpler
Transitioning to Availity helps to simplify workflows while aligning with the digital experience providers expect today. Through Availity, providers can:

- Track the progress of prior authorization requests.
- Review authorization determinations.
- Monitor authorization status updates through the portal.
Appeals are not supported through this update. To submit an appeal, providers should continue following the instructions outlined in the applicable non-certification determination letter.
Transitioning from the current portal
Starting August 15, 2026, prior authorization requests will no longer be accepted through meritain.mednecessity.com. Users visiting the site will be automatically redirected to Availity.
Receiving ongoing support
Providers can still access live support for prior authorization requests, status inquiries and related questions by calling the prior authorization phone number listed on member ID cards. Additional resources are also available within the Availity portal.
